    Principal's Report

Our whole school community have had thoughts, prayers and best wishes for Brendan, Julie and family.  Like the Charlton community, we are 100% behind them and here to support them in any way we can.  We will be keeping a close eye on school activities and keeping in close contact with the Bourke family.

STOMP dance program has been taking place this week at Charlton College.  We thank Marg McGrath for helping transport our children during the wet weather.  The children have had a fantastic time learning new dances with Maddi and the College students.  There will be a short concert on Friday morning at 9:45 in the primary school gallery.  Everyone welcome. Can all St Joseph's students get dropped off/get off buses at Charlton College on Friday morning before school.

The Lions Club of Charlton have been contacted by the Ballarat Diocese to do eye screening tests on the children at St Joseph's on the 17th October.  This is optional and they recommend children already under the care of an optometrist not to participate in the program.  I have attached the information further down in the newsletter for you to read.  If you would like your child to participate in the program, please fill in the permission form your child will bring home.

    3/4/5/6 Class News

    Welcome back to Term 4!

This week students have been busy participating in our STOMP program with the Charlton College students. They have been having a wonderful time learning new moves and dance routines and are looking forward to presenting their practiced routine at Friday’s concert.

This term we have started a new shared reading unit on wonders of the natural, ancient and modern world. Students have started learning about what a modern wonder of the world is and some examples of natural global icons. Students have been working on narrative writing this week through a writing task set about a boy in a jungle hut. They have been consolidating their writing skills of paragraphing, spelling, grammar, sentence structure and sequencing. Students have also been working on incorporating descriptive language into their writing as covered last term.

This week students are focusing on the topic of graphing in Maths. They have been working understanding what graphing is and how it is used in our everyday lives. Students have been consolidating their understanding of posing questions, collecting data, graphing data in a variety of ways and interpreting the data.

Students have been out in the garden this week with Mrs Winslade. They are testing the PH level of the soil to ensure that it is appropriate for the seedlings they are planting next week.

Contract 28 and spelling homework are due Friday please.

    Humour

Paddy was in New York for the first time patiently watching the traffic cop on a busy street crossing.  The cop stopped the flow of traffic and shouted; “OK pedestrians,” then he’d allow the traffic to pass.  He’d done this several times as Paddy stood on the sidewalk.

After the cop shouted, “Pedestrians” for the 10th time, Paddy shouted out, “what about the Catholics?”
