Term 3 Week 3 2022
Principal's Report
What a nice drop of rain we have had in the past week.
I will be away next week Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday at a Diocesan Principals meeting in Horsham.
In our endeavours to seek a new Principal, staff, parents and 3/4/5/6 students will be able to contribute to a survey focusing on the treasures we wish to keep, things we would change and what we want in a new Principal. The link to the survey has been emailed through PAM. If anyone has any trouble finding it, please contact Cate.
We will be sending home a copy of the Safeguarding Children & Young People Code of Conduct for every parent to read and sign. Most of you have seen this before but DOBCEL is currently rolling out the 11 new Child Safe standards as mandated by Ministerial Order 1359. There are a few small changes in the Code of Conduct so we are required to get a new copy signed. Below in the information section of the newsletter, there is a hyperlink to the Code of Conduct and the Child Safety and Well Being Policy for your perusal. The 11 new standards have all been uploaded to the NEW school website. Feel free to have a look and if you have any input or suggestions, let Frank or Cate know. Some of the policies are generated by DOBCEL and can't be changed but some are school based and can be adapted to our environment.
We are coming into a busy few weeks. On Thursday 11th August we are having a come and try morning for the 2023 foundation students and their parents.
On Wednesday 17th August, Cate, Naomi and Nat will be taking 8 children to defend the Division 1 and Division 2 titles at the Shepparton and District Badminton Tournament. We will leave after school on Wednesday and return by about 6:00p.m. Thursday. The cost will be $80 per student. This fee will be added to your school fee account. This will cover accommodation (cabins at Shepparton Holiday Village), dinner Wednesday night, breakfast and lunch Thursday. The children may wish to bring some spending money to get a snack at the well stocked kiosk in the stadium and we often stop for a snack on the way home. Children will only need to bring their sports uniform, pyjamas, toiletries and underwear for the next day (a couple of pairs of socks please!) They will also need a drinker, badminton racquets and a coat/beanie as the stadium is quite cold.
The day after the badminton tournament is the beginning of our Circuit Breaker long weekend. There will be no school on Friday 19th August and Monday 22nd August.
The following week we have Book Week Dress up day on Wednesday 24th August followed by the Calder sports on Thursday 25th August. We will need parents to help with hurdles on the sports day. The more volunteers we have, the less each parent has to do. We will set up a roster so each parent helper can have plenty of time to watch their children as well as help with hurdles for a couple of age groups. Please let Cate know if you are availale to help on the day. Girls might need to start bringing their runners to school each day (and boys if they dont wear runners with uniform). We will be starting to run off relay teams any day. We have Garnet for 2 more weeks after today to help develop the childrens athletic skills before the sports.
Information
Please find following links to the first new Child Safety policies. There are now 11 standards, up from 7. We will be attaching policies to the newsletter each week for you to have a read. If you have any input or suggestions, please feel free to contact the school. All of the new policies are available on the NEW website.

Students are learning about machinery safety on a farm through their shared reading text this week. Students are revising OLSEL strategies that will help them to break up syllables, phonemes and identify consonant and vowels to aid in their reading, spelling and writing. Students are working in small groups on spelling strategies and foci to support their individual needs. Students are continuing to work in small, guided reading groups to support their reading and comprehension skills with varied foci. In writing, students are continuing to work on narrative writing with a farm safety focus. This week students have brainstormed different hazards found on a farm and incorporated one of these in their writing. Students have revised paragraphs, narrative structure and conjunctions, including what they are and when to use them in their writing.
In Maths, Year 3 and 4 students are continuing to work on understanding proper, improper and mixed fractions. Year 5 and 6 students are working on placing fractions on a number line and comparing fractions with different denominators. Students are also working on understanding pictorial and number patterns, including identifying and following rules for these patterns.

In Religion, students are learning about the Sacraments and how the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation are linked.
The ‘Dad Jokes’ are a big hit and we’ve heard some very clever jokes.

Humour
An Englishman, and Irishman and a Scotsman were all hungry one night and only had the price of a small pie.
Since it was too small to divide they decided to go to sleep and the pie would go to the person who had the most interesting dream.
When they woke up in the morning, the Englishman said, ‘I had a very interesting dream. I dreamed I was ruler over the whole world. You can’t get more interesting than that! So I deserve the pie.’
‘Hold it,’ said the Scotsman. ‘I dreamed I was ruler over the whole universe, so that pie belongs to me.’
‘I had the most interesting dream of all,’ said the Irishman. ‘I dreamed I was hungry, so I got up and ate the pie!’
