    Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Friends of St Joseph's

Term 2 finishes tomorrow, Friday at 2:30pm.  Next term will commence on Monday 11 July. So everybody have a happy and restful break.

Thankyou to all the staff for their committed work with the St Joseph's Children.  The staff are determined to give all children, trusted to our care, a good education and one that will form a strong foundation for future educational endeavours.  Education is changing rapidly with greater workloads, higher government expectations and support becoming harder to come by.

We say farewell to the Riley family who are moving to Lockwood, near Bendigo.  Brad and Mel have supported our school well and we say to Dash, Archie and Willow good luck and every best wish with your new school.  Always feel welcome if you are going past to call in and see us.

The children attended mass today to celebrate with the Parish, the leaving of the Donaldson Family (Matt and Elaine) from Charlton.  As committed Parishioners they took great interest in St Joseph's and they always supported the school in every way they could. We thank them and wish the Donalson Family well with their new move.

We have had no feedback, as yet, from our school review, but as soon as we hear something I will update the parent body.

    Information

Last day of school for Term 2 - 2.30pm finish.

Heating up lunches at lunch time is becoming an issue due to the number of requests and the time it takes in supervision. In a small rural school you are pretty much on duty every second or third time.  So in twenty minutes to have a break and eat your lunch and some days there can be eight requests for heating.  Safety is always an important concern with the children with hot items.  We try and please as much as we can but I think its fair that parents send food or soup in a thermos and provide a hot tea at home. Teaching is a high need and committed profession and teachers can't be spending most of their lunch time heating up children's food and not getting a fair break. Other schools have similar policies to this due to compliance with OH&S and child safety standards.

    Prep/1/2 Class News

This week is our last week of term and we are saying goodbye to one of our families. Dash, Archer and Willow Riley will be missed and we wish them all luck in their new ventures.

This week in Literacy we are continuing to read the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. We are continuing to look at story structure and revision of nouns, verbs and adjectives. In writing, Year 1 and 2 students are continuing to write their narrative texts. They are revising simple and complex sentences and using these in their writing. We have revised sentence structure, identified nouns, verbs and adjectives and discussed and used conjunctions in our writing. Foundation students are continuing to work on orally creating and writing sentences. Some students are experimenting with the conjunction ‘and’. All students have been allowed creative freedom with their ideas this week and have produced some interesting tales!

This week in Maths students are revising and completing our work on 2D and 3D shapes, including line types, edges, corners, vertices, faces and nets of 3D shapes.. Students have also revised concepts learnt over the term.

Contract 18 homework is due this week.

Mr Whatnall says hello and is looking forward to coming back to Australia soon. I’ve really enjoyed my time teaching in the F/1/2 class. I wish you a happy and safe holidays and look forward to hearing all about your adventures when students return in Term 3
