    Principal's Report

Hello families and friends of St Joseph's Primary,

Thanks to all the parents who were able to find the time to help out with the school review requests.  Your efforts were certainly appreciated. I'll update you all as soon as I get a report.

Please make sure the children are wearing their beanies, jumpers and coats to school on those cold mornings.

Next term (1st of July) there will be tweleve new Child Safe Standards and ministerial order that have to be implemented as of term 3 this year. The staff will be working through each of these standards so they are familiar with the standards and the expectation of execution. It will be a big job and a lot of work.

Heating up lunches at lunch time is becoming an issue due to the number of requests and the time it takes in supervision. In a small rural school you are pretty much on duty every second or third time.  So in twenty minutes to have a beak and eat your lunch and some days there can be eight requests for heating.  Safety is always an important concern with the children with hot items.  We try and please as much as we can but I think its fair that parents send food or soup in a thermos and provide a hot tea at home. Teaching is a high need and committed profession and teachers can't be spending most of their lunch time heating up children's food and not getting a fair break. Other schools have similar policies to this due to compliance with OH&S and child safety standards.

    Prep/1/2 Class News

This week in Literacy we are reading the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. We are looking at story structure and revision of nouns, verbs and adjectives. Students are able to orally compare this version to others that they know. In writing, Year 1 and 2 students are continuing to write their narrative texts. They are revising simple and complex sentences and using these in their writing. During proofreading and editing, students are ensuring that they use appropriate nouns, verbs and adjectives. Foundation students are continuing to work on orally creating and writing sentences. They have written stories this week about Little Red Riding Hood, the Wolf and the Woodsman.

This week in Maths, students are learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We are focusing on naming these shapes, lines, corners, sides and faces of these shapes. Year 2 students are working on understanding nets of 3D shapes. Students have physical representations of 2D and 3D shapes which help them to learn and consolidate these concepts.

In Religion we are consolidating our understanding of love and faith. Students are revising their learning throughout the unit and creating a class video representation of their learning.

Contract 17 homework is due this week.
