Term 2 Week 7 2022
Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Friends of St Joseph's,
Hello everybody, as we embrace the depths and chill of the beautiful season of winter. Parents could you please make sure that your child/children are wearing their beanies, jumpers and coats when they leave home in the mornings. The winter months are usually challenging enough without taking on the flu and colds etc.
Our big boys are playing football in their playtime which is fantastic. Sometimes the tackles in the heat of the moment are causing some angst, worry and discomfort. We are dealing with this at school, but it would be affirming if you could tell your children at home that you can tackle but don't tackle to hurt each other. That's our message but the boys are good - just a little fine tuning required here.
Our school review is on today and tomorrow and I am confident that the school is on the right path and we will have a clear way forward. I just thank our stafff who are committed to your children. They were absolutely fantastic during the Covid time and our school's results are at a very high standard and have been for a very long time. This doesn't just happen, it's a result of meticulous planning and hard work. So I say to them all, well done, and thankyou and as parents if you get a chance to thank them and affirm this then I am sure they would be very appreciative.

Prep/1/2 Class News
This week in Literacy we are continuing to read Jack and the Beanstalk. We are discussing how the storyline would alter if certain elements of the story were changed, such as an absence of the giant. Students are revising what compound words are and looking at how we use quotation marks in our writing. Year 1 and 2 students are working on writing their own versions of fairy tales using the narrative structure, descriptive language and proofreading and editing their work. Foundation students are working on constructing fairy tale stories orally using a basic narrative structure and working on writing these down with varying degrees of independence. Foundation students are also connecting phonetic sounds to letters to help them spell familiar and unfamiliar words.
In Maths we are continuing to look at time. We are looking at analogue clocks and telling time to o'clock (Foundation), half past (Year 1) and quarter past and quarter to (Year 2). Students are learning different vocabulary associated with time such as morning, afternoon, midday, evening and noon. Year 1 and 2 students are revising how to use calendars and Foundation students are working on placing events in chronological order with time, such as having recess in the morning.
In Art we are working on a cut and paste artwork where we are confirming the message that students are "Bee the I in kind".

Four men are in the hospital waiting room because their wives are having babies. A nurse goes up to the first guy and says, “Congratulations! You’re the father of twins.”
“That’s odd,” answers the man. “I work for the Minnesota Twins!”
A nurse says to the second guy, “Congratulations! You’re the father of triplets!”
“That’s weird,” answers the second man. “I work for the 3M company!”
A nurse tells the third man, “Congratulations! You’re the father of quadruplets!”
“That’s strange,” he answers. “I work for the Four Seasons hotel!”
The last man is groaning and banging his head against the wall. “What’s wrong?” the others ask. “I work for 7 Up!”
