Term 2 Week 1 2022
Principal's Report
Hello everybody and welcome back to Term 2. The term certainly brings much uncertainty with it. I am sure there will be absentees with people with covid and difficulties will present themselves but we will just have to battle on as best as we can. Many schools are in the same boat.
The staff will be working on our school review which will take place on the 9th and 10th June this term. Our work with the new outdoor learning centre is coming along well.
We are heading to St Patrick's in St Arnaud for Catholic Education Week this year.
Last Sunday, the Parish Council and Parishioners were invited to the blessing ceremony of plaques recognising the magnificent contribution of the Sisters of Our Lady of The Missions 1924 to 1968 and a plaque for the Sisters of Mercy, 1969 to 1995 to our school community. There is also a plaque recognising the student boarders of St Joseph's Parish Convent 1930 to 1968. Our communities have been sincerely enriched by the presence of the two orders and the fruits of their work is still very much alive in our school today.

Prep/1/2 Class News
Welcome back to Term 2! I hope that you’ve all had a wonderful break and have been able to catch up with family and friends over the Easter holidays.
This week we have been reading and learning about what ANZAC Day is and how we commemorate it. We have had some great discussions about what students already know about the subject. We have baked some ANZAC biscuits and discussed why the recipe is different to some of our modern biscuit recipes. In writing we have been writing recounts about our holiday adventures and reflections about what ANZAC Day means to us. Students have also been working on acrostic poems for a special celebration happening next weekend.
In Maths we are revising our understanding of counting and place value. Foundation have been working on placing numbers in order from smallest to largest, recognising numbers to 30 and recognising and continuing colour and shape patterns. Year 1 students have been consolidating their understanding of two and three digit numbers through expanding numbers, placing these on a number line and using place value to order numbers from smallest to largest and vice versa. Year 2 students are reading and writing numbers to thousands place value and ordering two to four digit numbers from smallest to largest and vice versa. Year 2 students are also placing three and four digit numbers on number lines to show their values.
Our Religion unit this term is focusing on love in our family and friendship groups, our communities and within the church. We have started to listen to songs and stories about love and discussed what we already know.
Homework. This week we are working on Contract 10.

ANZAC Day Celebration
ANZAC DAY CEREMONY
On the 25th of April my Mum and I went to the ANZAC Day Ceremony in Charlton. As the School Captain I was representing St. Joseph’s School. I was very proud and honoured to carry a wreath up to the Cenotaph and march around it with everybody to the hall.
I stayed after to hear all the band play and the choir sing and all the very interesting speeches.
It was a great experience.

Church Cleaning Roster
Cleaning Roster: Thank you to the parishioners who clean our church. Just a reminder that Covid-19 is still around so the Church needs to be vacuumed once a month and wet areas, door knobs etc need to be cleaned and seats sprayed after each Mass.
Humour
An Irishman walks into an American bar and orders three shots of whiskey.
He downs each shot, pays the barman and walks out of the door.
He does this every night for two months.
The bartender eventually asks him why he always drinks exactly three shots.
“It’s one for me and one each for my two brothers back in Ireland” he tells the bartender.
A month later the Irishman only orders two shots of whiskey.
“Oh no” says the barman: “Has something happened to one of your brothers?”
“No nothing like that” replies the Irishman: “It’s just that I’ve decided to stop drinking.”
