Principal Report
Tomorrow morning, we have a football clinic with the North Melbourne Football Club via zoom. It will be interesting to see how the clinic goes using this medium. The opening School Mass/Ash Wednesday double is next Wednesday (2nd March) at 2:00p.m. Everyone is welcome. We look forward to seeing, parents, grandparents and friends of our school community there.
School photos are next Thursday. Please return photo envelopes ASAP. No later than Tuesday 1st March. If you would like a family photo envelope, please ask at the office.
We have had a confirmed covid case in the 3/4/5/6 classroom this week. Please test your children using the supplied RAT tests twice a week and contact the school if a positive case is detected.
Next Friday (4th March), the Variety Classic Cars will be stopping at Charlton Park for lunch. The St Joseph's mothers are catering for the cars. Please let Naomi know if you are available to help. All family, friends and community members are welcome to come over and have a look at the cars. We have been lucky enough to secure a grant from Variety for a new class set of iPads for the junior room. They are hoping to present these to the children on this day, although they have been having great difficulty sourcing iPads! The children will need to bring their own lunch and we will all go over to Charlton Park from 12 to 2. *Please note there is no food available for spectators but the bar will be open for drinks.
Information
Camps Sports and Excursion Fund. If you are wishing to apply for the camps sports and excursion fund. please either email, text or bring in to the office a copy of your health care card.
Beginning of Year School Mass. The beginning of Year School Mass will be held on Wednesday 2nd March. This will be combined with the Ash Wednesday Mass. At this stage it will be held at 2:00p.m.
Shrove Tuesday. Once again, Julie and Naomi will be making pancakes for morning tea next Tuesday 1st March for Shrove Tuesday. We thank these mums for making this possible each year.
School Photos. School photos are on Thursday 3rd March. Envelopes have been sent home. Family envelopes available at the office. Please return envelopes no later than Tuesday 1st March.
Variety Club Classic Car Rally. The Variety Club Classic Car Rally will be at Charlton Park on Friday 4th March for lunch. St Joseph's parents will be catering for their lunch. We will be taking the children over to Charlton Park to have a look at all the cars. We will also be receiving a new set of class iPads for the junior room from the Variety Club as the result of a grant we received last year.
Tuckshop. Please remember to have all tuckshop orders in on Tuesday each week.
Prep/1/2 Class News
This week students have been reading the book ‘Crew Stew’ with an emphasis on the phoneme of ‘ew’. We have enjoyed reading together and focusing on one-to-one matching with Foundation students, recognising high frequency words and punctuation with Year 1 and working on fluency with Year 2 students. Students are enjoying the topic of pirates this week in their writing and have created their own pirate character to write about. We have brainstormed many interesting adjectives to add to our writing.
In Maths we are completing our unit on Place Value. Year 2 students have worked on understanding numbers to the thousands place value. Year 1 students have worked on understanding numbers to the hundreds place value and are beginning to look at thousands place value. Foundation students have worked hard on recognising, counting, writing and making collections of numbers from 0-20 to varying degrees.
In Religion we have looked at what respect is and what is means. The students have listened to a story called ‘Miss Lily’s Fabulous Pink Feather Boa’ and have explored the ideas of friendship, honesty and respect that the book describes in the storyline.
In Show and Tell time students are continuing to work on taking turns to speak and giving more details about the treasures that they bring in.
Grade 3/4/5/6 Class News
Literacy: At school we are working to submit entries to name the National large Air Tanker. We are learning a little about Australia's Disaster Resilience resources.
Religion: The class are thinking about the many choices they made during lockdown and the associated reason behind them.
Numeracy: Students are working hard on place value activities. The students are playing Math Language snap.
Swimming Articles
Today is the last day of swimming with Sheree. We did treading water,somersaults and jumping in.

We have had a good two weeks of swimming. We tread water at the deep end and freestyle.I had to stop a bit but I liked it.Now I can practice those moves in the swimming pool.

For swimming we did freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and a lot more. My favorite thing to do for swimming is freestyle and breaststroke. One time for swimming Sheree made us try to skull for five minutes. It was very hard to stay up. I had a lot of fun at work.

Today at swimming we jumped in the deep end first then we did freestyle, somersault and backstroke we had a race in freestyle and l won next we treaded water for 2 and a half minutes after that the other people in my group went on the cheeky mat while I did the dolphin kick around at the end we got to have free time it was the best.

Swimming was so fun. I learnt survival backstroke,Freestyle and in the first week it was so so cold BUTon the 2nd week the pool was so so warm and we learnt how to tread water. And Sheree was nice.

Swimming was really fun. Our swim teacher Sheree was kind and an energetic person. I learnt a lot of new survival skills such as survival backstroke, how to escape a boat on fire and how to save a drowning person. My favourite was how to escape a boat on fire because we had to make sure everyone was safe and sound once we pin dropped in.

Today at swimming we learned survival backstroke and treading water. Everyone in my group treaded water for 5 minutes. I have loved learning from our swimming teacher sheree. She is very nice and I have learned a lot of new stuff and new techniques.

Facts I learned at swimming this year: I learned that if you blow bubbles underwater, nothing goes up your nose for a couple of seconds if you do a pin drop curl your toes over the edge.

Today at swimming our whole school walked to the pool. We did lots of different techniques of swimming. We were able to tread water for 5 mins. My legs were really tied. At the end we had 5 mins of free time to jump in and swim. It was so fun.
